    Liechtenstein :


Declaration contained in a letter from the Permanent Representative of Liechtenstein, dated 25 January 1983, handed to the Secretary General at the time of deposit of the instrument of ratification, on 27 January 1983 - Or. Fr.

In accordance with Article 11 of the European Convention on the Calculation of time-limits, I have the honour to send you herewith the list of official holidays or days which shall be considered as official holidays in Liechtenstein:

1.1 Nouvel An (New Year's Day), 6.1 Epiphanie (Epiphany), 2.2 Chandeleur (Candlemas), 19.3 Saint-Joseph, 25.3 Annonciation (Annunciation), Vendredi Saint (Good Friday), Lundi de Pâques (Easter Monday), 1.5 Fête du travail (Labour Day), Ascension (Ascension), Lundi de Pentecôte (Whit Monday), Fête-Dieu, 15.8 Assomption (Assumption), Fête Nationale (National Day), 1.11 Toussaint (All Saints' Day), 8.12 Immaculée Conception (Immaculate Conception), 25.12 Noël (Christmas Day), 26.12 Saint-Etienne (Saint Stephen)

    Luxemburg :


Declaration contained in a letter from the Permanent Representative of Luxembourg, dated 5 October 1984, handed to the Secretary General at the time of deposit of the instrument of ratification, on 10 October 1984 - Or. Fr.

1. I have the honour to notify, in accordance with Article 11 of the Convention, the official holidays in Luxembourg or days which shall be considered as official holidays under Article 5:

a. 1.1 Nouvel An (New Year's Day), Lundi de Pâques (Easter Monday), 1.5 Fête du Travail (Labour Day), Ascension (Ascension), Lundi de Pentecôte (Whit Monday), 23.6 Fête Nationale (National Day), Assomption (Assumption), 1.11 Toussaint (All Saints' Day), 25.12 Noël (Christmas Day), 26.12 Deuxième jour de Noël (Boxing Day).

b. where one of the above-mentioned holidays falls on a Sunday, it is replaced by an alternative holiday. During the same year, it is only possible to replace a maximum of two holidays, with the exception of the National Holiday the celebration of which is carried forward to the 24th June if the 23rd June is a Sunday.

c. for the purposes of Article 5 of the Convention, Saturday is regarded as an official holiday.

2. Where the nominal duration of the official or statutory time-limits falling within Article 1 of the Convention and presently called clear days is less than 10 days, they are increased by one day.

    Österreich :


Declaration contained in the instrument of ratification, deposited on 11 August 1977 - Or. Engl./Fr./Germ.

The application of Article 3, paragraph 1, and Article 5 is excluded as regards time-limits in the field of

- elections for general representative bodies and for bodies representing professional interests established by law, and

- referendums and popular initiatives.

The Permanent Representative notified the Secretary General, in accordance with the provisions of Article 11 of the Convention, of the official holidays or days which shall be considered as official holidays, in the territory of the Republic of Austria under Article 5 of the Convention:

1st January, 6 January, Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1st May, Ascension, Whit Monday, Corpus Christi, 15 August, 26 October, 1st November, 8 December, 25 December, 26 December

Communication contained in a letter from the Permanent Representative of Austria, registered at the Secretariat General on 8 September 1999 - Or. Engl.

According to the Austrian Federal Law on the 31st of December 1999 in respect of the calculation of time limits (Federal Gazette BGB1. I Nr. 186/1999), the 31st of December 1999 shall be considered as legal holiday for the purposes of Article 5 of the European Convention on the Calculation of Time-limits.

    Schweiz :


Declaration contained in a Note verbale from the Permanent Representation of Switzerland, dated 6 December 2010, registrered at the Secretariat General on 13 December 2010 – Or. Fr.

In accordance with Article 11 of the Convention, Switzerland notifies an amendment, with effect as of 1 January 2011, of the Swiss declaration related to the list of official holidays or days which shall be considered as such in Switzerland.

The current consolidated list of official holidays or days which shall be considered as such in Switzerland for the Confederation and the 26 Cantons, is available on line through the following link:

It is recalled that the determination of these days, with the exception of the 1st of August (National Day), falls under the jurisdiction of the Cantons.
